The U.S. Army South Command USARSO/Dawg Fight Golf Group originally got its start in Panama and found its way to Puerto Rico, on the command's transfer. The USARSO finally moved to Fort Sam Houston during 2003 and the Dawg Fight Group re-started during the summer of 2004. Since that time, the Dawg Fight Group has grown in membership, primarily due to its deviation from the strict USGA playing rules and more importantly, the group's playing format popularity.
Dawg Fight Golf Group
San Antonio, Texas
Although the group has experienced several changes in playing rules, the group's blind draw concept has remained unchanged! Meaning that playing groups always play together and each player plays his own ball for scoring purposes. At the conclusion of a match, a blind team draw is held to select teams, and to tally each player's score for an overall team score. The team with the best scores are divided into a first, second, third, and at time fourth place winners. All moneys collected from the various pots are given back to the winning players.
Dawg Fight Group matches are played on Saturdays, some Sundays, and at least two Wednesdays per month, as well as on Federal holidays. Our group plays at many of the more challenging local area golf courses, both resort and private courses, at significantly reduced rates. We also play in New Braunfels, Austin, Boerne, and Kerrville areas. The courses on our rotation are listed on the next tab.
Our outing match results are published in the Tuesday edition of the San Antonio Express-News, Sports section, Tee to Green report. An email message to Dawg Fight players is published following the outings with our match results. The published match results include Team, Net Score, and Skin winners. Once a month, we have a closest to the pin award (at no cost to the players) $20 on two par threes.
We welcome you, as well as your playing group, and hope you give our Dawg Fight group an opportunity to be part of your recreational golf experience.
